Why does my scan disappear after exiting the scanning session?

If you are scanning Ordered Data and your scan disappears from the Graphics window when you end the scanning session it is likely that the Spacing and Max. Edge Length have been set to zero.

Ordered data creates cells of points that are laid out in a grid like fashion. Spacing defines the minimum distance one point can be to the next in the grid. Max. Edge Length defines the maximum distance between the scan lines as data is collected. When these numbers are set to zero this gives an empty value for each cell in the scan. So you will see the points being collected while scanning; however, when you exit the command these points are removed from the dataset as they have an empty value.

Here are the steps to reset these values.

1) Expand the Advance Options dialog in the scanning dialog box.

2) Scroll down to Ordered Data Options and see if the values in Spacing or Max. Edge Length have been set to zero.

3) If they have scroll down to the bottom of the dialog and click Set to Defaults.

This will adjust the spacing of the grid and lengths of the cells so that it can be viewed in the graphics window.
